11U McCann Tournament

Wednesday, June 9, 2010: The Norcross Blue Devils (Blue) Team finished the spring 2010 GGBL tournament this evening losing to Collins Hill (Green) in a fiercely fought contest. However, Norcross players can hold their heads very high because spring 2010 was a great season for Norcross Baseball. The Blue Devils finished the season in 3rd place out of 19 spectacular teams with a tremendous record of 13-5. And then Norcross made its way through the Dacula bracket portion of the GGBL tournament by beating Collins Hill (Black), Buford, Dacula and Peachtree Ridge (after Peachtree Ridge originally put Norcross into the loser's portion of the bracket). The highlights of the Collins Hill (Black) game are outlined below. There were several other outstanding games played during this stint, especially one versus Dacula where Norcross won in a hotly contested pitcher's duel, 1-0 behind the spectacular pitching of William Newlin, Parker Lowe, and closer and game saver, Luis Dewendt. And there was the game versus Peachtree Ridge where Jay Estime hit a triple in the bottom of the 6th inning in a tie game, and then Mac Ruedt scored him with a walk-off sacrifice fly ball to deep right field. In the Buford game, Zach Green was credited with the game winning RBI when he singled in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring Mac Ruedt in an exciting 6-5 victory. And the Norcross team also had lots of fun along the way to finishing in 3rd place overall at the GGBL tournament. And fans, the season is not over yet. Norcross will play in the Brian McCann Tournament slated for the weekend of June 18th. We are looking forward to playing our final tournament of the season and hopefully having a chance at redemption with Collins Hill (Green) who are also slated to play in this tournament. What an enjoyable season to be a Norcross Blue Devil!

injury comeback

Wednesday, June 2, 2010: The Norcross Blue Devils Blue Team played its first GGBL playoff game of the 2010 spring season tonight versus the Collins Hill Black team. The game was an old-fashioned pitcher's duel. Norcross was led by its spotless defense and pitching. Jay Maxa pitched the first two scoreless innings. Jake Camarda pitched the 3rd and 4th innings and did not give up an earned run. And Cory Kelly closed the game out in the 5th and 6th innings not only refusing to give up a run but also earning himself the win. Norcross had great defensive plays from Parker Lowe, Max Tracey, Zach Green, William Newlin and Mac Ruedt. Also, Luis DeWendt and Carson Taylor were throwing out runners from the catcher's position all night long. And speaking of Birth Day Boy Carson Taylor, he led the Norcross offense going three for three at the plate and getting the game tying double in the bottom of the 6th inning. The game ended on a very unusual note when Luis DeWendt was at the plate with bases loaded and only one out. As the pitcher was in the wind-up, Luis turned to ask the umpire for time. The umpire did not grant the request, but the Collins Hill pitcher halted his throwing motion nevertheless. The plate umpire correctly called a balk allowing William Newlin to cross home plate. The Blue Devils won the squeaker 2-1 over a very worthy Collins Hill Black team.

Saturday, May 22, 2010: The Norcross Blue Devils Blue Team finished its regular GGBL season today by taking on the Buford Wolves at Pinckneyville Park. It was a hot and muggy day as the teams took the field. This was also Buford's last game of the season and both teams were looking to end the season strong. After the first half inning, Buford was leading the game 3-0. But the Norcross (never-say-die) Blue Devils were up to the task and put up 5 runs in their portion of the inning. Carson (steady hand) Taylor had another great day on the mound and pitched three excellent innings. Luis DeWendt came in to close out the game and also had a spectacular day allowing no runs. On offense, the Blue Devils were led by William Newlin and Cory Kelly who both went two for two. Also, Luis DeWendt went one for one reaching base all three times he went to the plate. Jay Maxa and Max Tracey also had clutch hits in the game. Norcross met its goal winning 13 games and finishing the season by winning their last six of seven games. The final score was Norcross 16 Buford 5. Norcross will take its hot streak to Webb Bridge Park next weekend for the Webb Bridge Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. Go Blue Devils!

3rd Base Coach

Tuesday, May 18, 2010: The Norcross Blue Devil Blue Team took on the Norcross Blue Devil Gray team on Tuesday night. It was a beautiful night for baseball. There was a lot of electricity in the air as these friends and former teammates took the field. Both teams played great baseball. Norcross Blue had 11 runs on 11 hits, with 3 errors. Norcross Gray had 4 runs on 3 hits and one error. Norcross Gray was led by Russell Megenity who went two for two and made some fantastic plays out in center field. The Norcross Blue team was led by its switch hitting phenom, Carson (no fear with two stikes) Taylor, who went three for three with three doubles. On defense, Luis (hit it at me as hard as you want) DeWendt made three spectacular plays in the field that were absolute game changers. Luis made two plays at third base on hot shots that would have gotten by a mere mortal. Luis also made a great play in right field throwing out a runner at first base. Norcross also had great support from Jake Camarda, William Newlin, Mac Ruedt, Jay Maxa, Cory Kelly, and Max Tracey who all had clutch hits in the game. Jake Camarda turned in another great pitching performance with three innings pitched while giving up only one run. Parker Lowe came in to close the game in the fourth inning and did a stellar job. There was great sportsmanship on both sides of the diamond and it was a truly enjoyable night for baseball.

Sunday, May 16, 2010: The Norcross Blue Devil Team traveled to Dacula for its last away spring 2010 regular season game on Sunday. Norcross Player of the Game Luis (get me to the party on time) DeWendt was a force to be reckoned with both on the mound and at the plate. Luis pitched three flawless innings giving up no walks, three hits and only two runs. At the plate, Luis was one for one with a big double to lead off the second inning. Norcross also had hits from Jake (Mr. Triple) Camarda, Carson (double-time) Taylor, Mac (two for two) Ruedt, Jay (hard hit) Maxa, and Cory (double again) Kelly. The Norcross team played spectacular defense as well making only one error. The game was close, but Norcross held on to win 6-4 in a rain shortened contest.
